The hand you should most familiarize yourself with is a pocket or wired pair. This happens when you are dealt two of any card, for example two jacks or two sevens.
Hands that don’t qualify as a pocket pair are either suited hands or unsuited hands. Two cards of the same suit are referred to as suited hands and two cards of different suits are referred to as unsuited hands.
Usually the higher the cards you get in the pocket and depending on whether they are paired or suited greatly raises the hand ranking.
