My Quest in Linkbait Mastery - Part 1

Linkbaiting.

Everyone is talking about it, but how many are really successful?

The folks over at SEOMoz really seem to know what they’re doing. According to one of their articles, they brought the site Drivl from 50 vists a day with 90 links to 5,500 visits a day and 19,000 links - in only 3 months. How did they do it? Solely with linkbait.

I especially like their article about how every site is linkbait worthy - it solves the problem of linkbaiting for more “boring” site niches like parts, for instance.

I’ve decided to really master the art of the linkbait - the more I think about it the more it seems like one of the best skills a webmaster could possibly have. It combines great content with amazing inbound link possibilities, all completely free of charge - what more can you ask for?

I will track my progress on this blog. I think it will take a couple of months to really get this down - probably 3 or 4, if not more.

What I Need to Do

  1. Establish powerful social bookmarking accounts and grow the friends list on them. Digg, del.icio.us, Propeller, and StumbleUpon
  2. Read Up on the Ultimate Guide to Linkbaiting Resources. An article a day.
  3. Start Brainstorming Good Linkbait Headlines
